Visakhapatnam, May 11 (IANS) For a second consecutive day, all flights to and from Visakhapatnam have been canceled while air services to Vijayawada and Rajahmundry were also affected on Wednesday due to Cyclone Storm ‘Asani’ in the Bay of Bengal.
As the cyclonic storm closes in on the Andhra Pradesh coast and triggers rains and gusty winds in the region, authorities have suspended air services to and from Visakhapatnam airport for a second day consecutively as a precaution.
IndiGo announced the cancellation of all its inbound and outbound flights, while AirAsia canceled morning flights from Delhi and Bengaluru.
“A decision on AirAsia evening flights is expected,” the Visakhapagnam airport manager said in a tweet.
While Air India also canceled all its flights, Spicejet canceled its flight to Kolkata.
Spicejet said a decision on further flights scheduled for the afternoon and evening will be made after a review of the situation.
The cyclone also affected air services at Vijayawada International Airport. Several flights to and from Vijayawada scheduled for Wednesday have been canceled.
IndiGo has announced the cancellation of flights from Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. Link services to Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Kadapa have also been suspended.
All air services have also been suspended at Rajahmundry airport. Nine flights from Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad have been canceled.
