Intrastate air services launched from Surat | Surah News

Surat: An intra-state air service was launched from the city’s airport on Saturday. The state’s civil aviation minister, Purnesh Modi, and MOS Union for Textiles and Railways, Darshana Jardosh, remained present at the event.
The services jointly operated by Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Ltd and Ventura Airconnect will have daily air connectivity to Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Amreli at an offer price of Rs 1,999. A nine-seat Cessna Grand Caravan will take 30 minutes to reach Bhavnagar, 45 minutes to Amreli and 60 minutes to Ahmedabad. Currently, two aircraft will be used for the services while two more are in the process of being procured.
At the launch event, rides were offered to nine sanitation workers from Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and nine police personnel who were recently awarded for outstanding performance.
“The government is trying to provide air connectivity between cities in Gujarat at affordable rates. Now people can reach remote destinations in a short time,” Modi said.
The reduced price of Rs 1,999 will be offered for one month, after which the fee will be between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,500. “The government gives subsidies to the airline through which the tickets are offered at affordable price”, said Ishver Dholakiya, director of the airline.
“The government is working to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of helping people with ‘hawai-chappal’ to enjoy ‘hawai-yatra’. We are trying to provide better transportation facilities to stimulate the economy,” Jardosh said.
Speaking at the event, BJP Head of State and MP for Navsari, CR Paatil, who paid a brief visit, said, “Previously, it took eight to 12 hours to reach a destination in Saurashtra, but now, it will only take an hour.”
“It was the wish of airline mentors Govind Dholakiya, Savji Dholakiya and Lavji Daliya Badshah to offer a chance of air travel to those who cannot afford it, so the lowest possible ticket prices are offered,” Dholakiya said.
The airline was started by Dholakiyas, which operates two large diamond manufacturing units, along with Daliya, a developer. Both families belong to Saurashtra and migrated to the city four decades ago.
